In this blog post, we’ll explore three secrets to succeeding as a Christian photographer.
Tips to Become An Excellent Christian Wedding Photographer
Know your purpose and how it impacts your life and the people around you.
The first secret to succeeding as a wedding photographer is to define your purpose. What motivates you to take pictures? What do you hope to achieve with your photography? Knowing your purpose is important because it will help you stay focused and motivated. Your purpose will guide you as you choose the subjects and themes for your photographs. It will also help you develop your unique style and approach to photography.
Your purpose could be anything from promoting a message of hope and faith to capturing the beauty of God's creation. Whatever it is, make sure it aligns with your values and beliefs. You’ll be more successful if you’re passionate about your purpose and can communicate it clearly to your audience.
Knowing your why requires introspection and reflection on your faith and values. What do you believe? What values do you hold dear? What inspires you? Once you have a clear understanding of your why, you can begin to infuse it into your work.
For example, if your purpose is to bring hope to those who are struggling, your photography should reflect this. You might choose to focus on images that convey peace, strength, and resilience. By infusing your work with your why, you create images that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also meaningful.
Ask yourself these questions and let these points sink in:
Your purpose matters, you are here to make a difference in this world. God designed you to make a difference in the world, to touch people’s lives, and to bless them.
What breaks your heart, sets your soul on fire, what are you sold out to? Know your purpose and fulfill it fully. Always give 100% and go after things your heart burns for. If God has put it in your heart, you will be successful at it because He’s got your back.
Do you love it? If you don’t love what you are doing, other people will notice and it will be harder to get people to trust and believe in you. You must be sold out to what you are trying to sell people.
Don’t compare to others as we are all very different and created for a purpose. Don't get caught in imposter syndrome, you have something valuable to give to this world. Let your light shine!
Your belief system is important: How do you look at yourself? We are called to love our neighbor as ourselves... How are we to love others if we don't love ourselves?
Get around people who support, push you and call you higher! Who you are around the most, you will become. Make sure the people closest to you are not pulling you down & adding negativity into your life. Above all, make sure you know your identity in Christ and His promises for you, He is always calling you higher and to greater things!
2. Stay true and clear to your purpose.
Once you have defined your purpose, it is important to stay true to it. This means that you shouldn’t compromise your values in order to get more clients or make more money. If you find yourself n a situation where you are being asked to compromise your purpose, it is important to step back and re-evaluate your priorities.
Being true to your purpose also means that you should be selective about the clients you work with. You should work with clients who share your values and are aligned with your vision for your work. This will help you create images that are authentic and meaningful and that resonate with your audience.
Remember these questions and take note of these points:
Get clear on your purpose. Who are you here to serve and how are you going to show up and serve them?
What is your vision? Vision is gas for the soul, without it you will have nothing to work towards.
Where are you headed and why? Get clear on your goals. Your why needs to be steel that won't bend on hard days!
Do the work in the morning / before bed to build strong roots. Your roots need to be so strong! Consume and feed yourself great things that lead to a strong root system. Are you rooted and grounded in the Word or the world?
Act, Walk and Talk like it is done in Jesus' name! You’ll always reap a harvest if you always get after it. You reap what you sow, keep sowing good fruit in His name & you will continue to reap a plentiful harvest.
3. Move according to your purpose and take action!
It is important to move according to your purpose and communicate your values to your audience as a Christian wedding photographer. This means that you should be clear about what you stand for and what your work is all about. When doing this, you have to be authentic and genuine. You should share your personal story and the things that inspired you to become a wedding photographer. This will help your audience to connect with you on a deeper level and to understand the passion and purpose behind your work.
Your behavior should also reflect the same compassion, love, and respect that you seek to convey through your photographs. This means treating your clients, subjects, and colleagues with kindness and professionalism, even in challenging situations.
It also means being mindful of the impact your work may have on others. For example, if you’re photographing a religious ceremony or event, you should be respectful of the customs and traditions of the participants, and avoid any behavior that may be disruptive or disrespectful.
Remember:
Belief always precedes behavior! To change the way you respond to life, change what you believe about your life. The most important thing about you is your belief system. What does Jesus say about your life? What does God want for your life?
Always your Choice! You always have a choice on how you respond or react to everything that comes up in life and business. You have the choice to respond with love and kindness, no matter how hard it might be.
Just Start! You have to start somewhere, so even if you don't feel 100% ready, just start. Things won't always be perfect but it doesn't mean it can't bless someone. Take a leap of faith and just start!
